COVID-19 has had a big impact on both children and parents' lives and particularly on those children who need the consistency of routine and structure.

I can provide your child with regular learning support to ensure they aren't missing out on their education, whilst providing bespoke teaching methods to suit individual needs.

As a member of the British Dyslexia Association, I strongly believe evidence gathered supports the conclusion that feelings of inadequacy develop by the age of 8 years.

After this age, it becomes extremely difficult to help the child develop a positive self-image.

I can help to change this cycle of failure by setting attainable goals that will quickly develop self-belief, motivation and pride.

A good teacher-pupil relationship is pivotal to successful outcomes.

My deep knowledge of how children learn is the foundation on which  I create individual learning plans.

I am responsive to the child's personal and emotional development, whilst providing positive feedback with appropriate stretch and challenge.

Innovative Teaching Strategies

Activities are carefully planned to build confidence and create a fun experience.

Tasks and games are multi-sensory, with emphasis on over learning and memory work.

Sessions are planned to provide maximum stimulation to enable learning connections to be made and retained. Recap and practicing new skills are key elements of each activity.

Aptitudes, Attitudes and Outcomes

Teaching approaches and learning strategies are centred on evidence based research from the Conquering Literacy programme by Kathleen Kelly & Sylvia Phillips.

In addition, some methods are in keeping with Orton Gillingham, Helen Arkell and Darius Namdaran of Bulletmap Academy.

Testimonials

Home: Experience

"Debra has made such a difference to not only the educational outcomes of my daughter but also to her confidence, self-esteem and belief in her own ability – she loves her sessions and always comes away happy, feeling that she has achieved.  What sets Debra apart from many tutors and people delivering dyslexia tuition is that she has extensive years of primary and early years teaching to draw on so she pitches everything just right. She brings out the very best in the children with her warmth, humour and understanding. Having worked in and around education for many years Debra is by far one of the best teachers I have come across. She totally knows her stuff!"
